Electric Strike Lock (Fail-Safe / Fail-Secure Selectable)

Heavy-Duty Intelligent Electric Strike Lock (Fail-Safe / Fail-Secure Selectable) An industrial-grade, low-voltage electronic door-release mechanism engineered to replace a standard mechanical lock strike plate within a hollow metal or wood door frame. Operating on regulated 12V/24V DC power and interfacing directly with central access control units (ACU), this high-strength strike allows remote, automated unlocking of the door frame while keeping the door's primary mechanical lockset latch completely extended.

Electro-Mechanical Frame-Level Access Control Automation

In commercial facility management, automating a door entryway requires a reliable mechanical link that can hold up under constant use while keeping the structural frame secure. While electromagnetic locks are popular for emergency glass doors, they require constant power to stay locked and block code-compliant egress paths unless paired with complex sensor systems. An Electric Strike Lock solves this design hurdle by keeping the door's existing mechanical lockset (such as a cylindrical latch bolt or mortise lock) completely functional while automating the frame side of the opening.

The electric strike cuts directly into the hollow metal or wood door frame, replacing the passive brass or steel strike plate. Under normal conditions, the strike's internal metallic hinged piece—called the keeper—is locked firmly in place, trapping the door's latch bolt inside the frame and keeping the door shut.

When a user presents an authorized card, PIN, or biometric credential to the wall reader, the central access control panel pulses a current through the strike's internal, low-profile solenoid. The solenoid shifts an internal locking arm, allowing the keeper to pivot outward like a miniature saloon door. The occupant can then push or pull the door open without turning the door handle. As soon as the door swings open and clears the frame, an internal spring snaps the keeper back into its locked position, ready to trap the latch bolt the moment the door closes.

Critical Field-Configurable Lock Modes

To meet local life-safety codes (such as NFPA 101) and building security requirements, modern electric strikes feature field-selectable electrical configurations:

1. Fail-Secure Configuration (Power-to-Unlock)

  • The High-Security Default: The lock requires an active electrical pulse to release the keeper. If the facility loses building power completely during a storm or black-out, the strike stays locked from the outside, keeping the building secure.

  • Egress Integrity: Inward or outward egress is still perfectly achieved because occupants can simply turn the physical door handle or push an interior panic bar to mechanically retract the latch bolt.

2. Fail-Safe Configuration (Power-to-Lock)

  • The Life-Safety Default: The lock requires continuous power to keep the keeper barred shut. The moment power is cut, the keeper releases automatically.

  • Emergency Response: When hooked into a Fire Alarm Interlock (FAI), the central panel cuts power to all fail-safe strikes during an evacuation, allowing emergency personnel to push through doors smoothly.

Key Performance Features

  • Universal Fail-Safe / Fail-Secure Field Reversibility: Built with a movable internal slider block arrangement, allowing installers to switch operational modes on-site using a single hex tool without swapping internal solenoid components.

  • Dual-Voltage Dynamic Solenoid Core: Outfitted with an intelligent internal wire coil configuration that accommodates both 12V DC and 24V DC installations, minimizing warehouse ordering errors.

  • Integrated Latched Status Monitoring (LBM): Features an optional internal micro-switch sensor array that detects whether the door's latch bolt is actually inside the keeper, providing real-time "Door Closed" security status reporting back to the monitor panel.

  • Dynamic Heavy-Impact Load Capacity: Constructed using a solid stainless steel jaw casting certified to absorb jaw-breaking impacts up to $1,500\text{ lbs}$ of static holding force.

  • Low-Profile Enclosure for Shallow Frames: Slid cleanly inside ultra-slim 2-inch aluminum store-front trim profiles or deep hollow architectural steel columns.

Ideal Infrastructure Applications

  • Commercial Office Stairwell Corridors: Managing controlled entry onto secure office floors while ensuring unhindered mechanical egress during building fires.

  • Retail Storefront Entrance Aluminum Frames: Automating public entry glass frames alongside standard commercial deadlatches.

  • Institutional University Campus Facilities: Securing computer labs, lecture classrooms, and administrative offices on scheduled unlock timers.
